GGXX Mission Mode Strategies

The Making of Caramel Skies delayed again. 1 AM right now—too late to talk about anything other than GGXX. Also, archive updated, but currently does not display correctly in WinIE (no surprise).

Mission 30: Testament (no jump) vs. Kliff. In this mission, none of your (Testament's) attacks will damage Kliff. The only way to hurt him is with poison. You start with 210 life; Kliff starts full life; higher life total at the end of the 60-second round wins. The key to this mission is Testament's Phantom Soul (qcf+P). It gives you chances to combo into Nightmare Circular (hcb,f+H, poisons) and keeps Kliff away from you so the poison can last the full 9 seconds. I've found that the comp always runs into Phantom Soul if you do the attack from far away. Most likely, you'll also have to do some Warrants (qcb+K, poisons) to whittle away enough of Kliff's life. When trying to land a Warrant, don't get too close to Kliff. His short-range attacks give you no chance to react. His medium-range attacks, on the other hand, are fairly slow.

Mission 33: Dizzy (poisoned) vs. Gold Justice (healing). In this mission, you can't use special attacks and only normal attacks will damage Justice. You have 60 seconds to beat Justice. This mission is one of those missions where you have to exploit flaws in the comp's wake-up game. Specifically, the goal is to find a leading attack that will consistently hit the comp when it gets off the ground. In this case, that attack is Dizzy's dashing, far slash (the ice pick one). After knocking Justice down, dash in (not deep). Slash so that the ice pick comes out as Justice is getting up. When it connects, wait for a few hits (number of hits depends on distance) then combo into crouching hard slash to knock Justice down. Take a step back, dash in again, and repeat.

Mission 35: Venom vs. EX Gold Millia (healing). In this mission, you have no tension and only normals and specials will hurt Millia. This mission is very similar to mission 33. The characters have changed, but you still have to exploit the comp's wake-up game. Just like Dizzy, Venom's dashing slash will consistently hit the comp as it gets up. Don't dash in deep otherwise Millia will hit you with her crouching kick. From the slash, combo into hard slash then Double Head Morbid (dp+H). Take a step back and repeat.
