Passive Busy-ness

This summer has been passing by much slower than previous summers—at least, it is for me. It's because I'm not actively busy; I'm merely passively busy. Double econ, research, gym workouts, BEARcade outings, TVA visits—everything that I've been doing this summer take up chunks of time, but put little stress on me. Compare this with last summer, when teaching AIC took up all of my time and put a lot of stress on me.

It's a key difference. When you're under a lot of stress, time passes quickly. Think of the last half an hour of a killer, three-hour final exam. Doesn't really feel like a full half an hour, does it? When you're under no stress, time passes slowly. Think of the times when you sit around staring off into space (or am I the only one that does that?). The seconds go crawling by.

I haven't actually done much this summer, but that's okay; I'm relaxing instead in what might be my last free summer for many years to come. If I go for a full-time job right after I graduate, chances are I won't get much time off.
